Year-end Dining That’s Easy on Your Pocket

It’s close to end of the year and time for a pampering treat — for the tummy that is. Let’s face it, you’ve worked hard for the year, and what better way to treat yourself and impress others, than through a plethora of good food set in the ambiance of a 5 star hotel. But for many of us, hotel dining are deemed expensive and to some, a rip off. We have to think twice if dining in a hotel will cause us to overspend, or can we afford to take up invitations for a social drink in a hotel lounge without throwing off our personal budget. Or worse still, would passing up those invitations cause us to fall out of touch with our social group!
Business owners will have to work within limited budget by searching countless promotions online to get the best deal for their annual dinner gatherings. And for wedding couples, signing the final contract can mean a rush hour decision in view of escalating banquet costs year on year.
Fortunately, your year-end quest for great hotel dining can turn into year-end joy without throwing your budget into complete disarray. You can keep your money tight and under control by making deliberate choices about where to eat, when to eat, what to order, and who do you bring.

1. Impress by dining in gastronomic proportions

DoubleTreebyHiltonKL_MakanKitchen_01You don’t need to travel from north to south, and across east and west Malaysia to get all the cuisines you love so much. And boy, do we know Malaysians love and know their local foods, but please minus the sweltering heat and ordering from multiple hawker stalls. Hotels now enable you to impress international friends or visiting relatives in a comfortable setting where you can taste all types of Malaysian dishes and best of all, they can “eat as much as they want, where they want and how they want”, from appetizers, to main dishes and all the way to dessert.
To dine like this, be prepared to pay a three digit sum per person. BUT believe it or not, a 5-star hotel is now offering all these at only MYR75 per person for their 80 dishes dinner spread! And yes, it is all-you-can eat.
If you love dining in a group, you just got to find out more as this is for a limited time only!

2. Beyond Kids Eat Free, find places where your children’s fun needs are taken care of without paying for every single activity

lYou’ve scratched your head far too many times figuring out where to bring the family for that weekend quality time, and it still comes back to the question: how do you keep the children occupied while you catch up on food and conversations with friends and family. Well, missing out on family time has no excuse now, as we present a place that provides you and your children the essential weekend treat of food, fun and games. Here’s a sneak peek:

Introducing Newly Appointed Executive Sous Chef

Ciao! Bringing with him an easy laugh and gentle disposition, newly appointed Executive Sous Chef, Chef Filippo Giunta is DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s newest recruit, set to be Executive Chef Eric Siew’s right hand man.
Born in Palermo, the liveliest town in Sicily, it is easy to see where Chef Filippo gets his jovial demeanor from. His passion for food stems from the deep rooted Sicilian tradition of big weekend gatherings with his family. As a boy, he used to watch wide-eyed as platters of celebrated feast foods are being brought out from his grandmother’s kitchen. Today, the tradition lives on with him bringing his favourite Sicilian recipes along with his 21 years of culinary experience to the kitchens of DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
Chef Filippo started his culinary career in traditional trattoria restaurants in Sicily 1994 before moving to London as Curzon Restaurant’s Chef de Partie. He then joined the ultra chic Yauatcha Restaurant London where during his tenure as Chef de Partie, the restaurant was awarded with one Michelin star. After restaurant stints, Chef Filippo ventured into the hotel industry in 2007 as Sous Chef de Cuisine and thereafter moving to India to be the Italian Head Chef in The Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi. Prior to his appointment in DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Chef Filippo was the Italian Head Chef at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
In his new role as Executive Sous Chef, Chef Filippo’s key responsibilities consist of overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations for the success of the hotel. His main goal is also to participate in the development and implementation of business strategies for the kitchen that are aligned with the hotel’s overall mission, vision, values and strategies, including ensuring customer satisfaction for each of the five dining outlets, including the award-winning Makan Kitchen and Tosca, Trattoria Italian Restaurant. He aspires to introduce healthy ingredients into the menus he creates whilst maintaining rustic, hearty recipes with good quality local produce as well as specific products that comes only from his home country. In his spare time, this proud and cheerful Sicilian loves nothing more than spending time with his family and cooking for them his favourite traditional oven-baked lasagna.

We Turn 5 with Books For CARE, Raising 200kg of Books!

The calling was high – to raise 50kg of books to donate to 5 non-profit organizations. But we did it! In conjunction with DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur turning 5, we have successfully raised not just 50kg, but more than 200kg books for donations.

Thanks to a great partner in Avenue K shopping mall, who created space and helped solicited books from their mall patrons since July 1. Internally in the Hotel, we have coordinated departmental book rallies, received books from guests near and far, and gained tremendous support from Pelangi Publishing Group, who donated 30 educational books for this purpose.

As an random act of kindness, the Hotel and CARE committee took it to the streets of Jalan Ampang walking to the beats of street drummers to Avenue K and distributing 3,000 cookies to the public. The spread of cookie love ties to the Hotel’s goal of deepening its presence with its iconic DoubleTree by Hilton chocolate chip cookie after 5 years of proudly serving our Malaysian, regional and international travelers, guests & communities.
